Happy Halloween

This is probably (okay, definitely) TMI, but I just read Nintendo's 2009 release calendar while taking a dump...in my Mario costume.

(Well, I didn't take a dump in the costume. I did it in the toilet bowl. But you get the idea.)

In any case, looks like I picked a good time to buy an XB360, considering the most exciting thing on Nintendo's Wii list is a port of Mario Power Tennis for the GameCube.

Prince of Persia Storybook

I absolutely adore this kind of thing. Ubisoft has produced a storybook to promote the upcoming Pince of Persia game -- which looks totally awesome, by the way. And the book is gorgeous, too, even in online form. I guess the Penny Arcade guys wrote it and did the art? Very impressive! I wonder if there will be a physical book as well? Seriously, I'm not sure these kind of premiums ever have the impact that they deserve, but it's still really cool when companies do this kind of creative "brand extension" for their products.

Regarding Used Games

100th post!

Regarding used games, peep this Joystiq thread for an extremely entertaining debate about the issue. Granted, it devolves into "ur dumb LOL" in some places, but remarkably, a healthy back-and-forth can be teased from the comments.

Instead of posting there, I decided to put down a thought here: if you want to give your strongest support to the developers (and publishers) of a game, buy new. If you want to save money, wait and buy used.

In Other News

I bought an Xbox 360 last night. Woo! This was the gift I promised to myself when our game was ready for launch. Though maybe I jumped the gun a bit, I just couldn't wait to play Dead Space. Imagine my dismay when I discovered that the stores are not getting Dead Space until today!

Fortunately, the nice boys at Cheap Ass Gamer reported on the excellent "buy 2, get 1 free" Toys R Us sale that is currently going down. I bought GTA IV and Force Unleashed, selecting Bioshock as my free game. Even though Bioshock is currently priced at $40, I decided to get it because: a) it was free, and b) there's been a lot of talk in development circles lately about the hard facts regarding used game sales. So I decided to buy the game new and support the developer (and Toys R Us) instead of GameStop.

Anyhoo, my plan is to return Force Unleased for Dead Space. What I'm also debating is whether or not I return GTA IV for Fable II when it comes out next week. I don't know how I'm going to have time for all these games. But if Fable gets some good writeups, I think I might skip another 100 hours in Liberty City for a new tour of Albion.

FusionFall: More to Read

GameCyte delivers a very nice piece about the platforming aspects of our game, as well as some other things that (we hope) make FusionFall quite different from the standard MMO experience.
